COLLABORATION WITH THE WEIZMANN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE

BEE-IO and Yeda, the commercial arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Establish Joint Research Program in The Field of Natural Nectar Production. Research and license agreement between BEE-IO and Yeda, the technology transfer company of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, was signed on 17.6.21. The collaboration will advance BEE-IO’s technology for production of natural nectar from plants. The agreement will also seek to recruit highly qualified researchers and staff to support and facilitate the research program’s central mission. This partnership that leverages talent and plant research scientific expertise is guaranteed to deliver technological breakthroughs in the innovative field of nectar production and contribute towards finding solutions for the ever-growing demand for honey. Moreover, this joint effort will assist BEE-IO's mission in introducing the world with a new technology of producing nectar as a superfood for human consumption and other industrial use.

COLLABORATION WITH THE WEIZMANN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE

Collaboration with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

The collaboration combines the Company’s technological innovation in the field of cultured honey production with cutting-edge synthetic biology approaches developed by Professor Ron Weiss at MIT’s Synthetic Biology Center. The use of these approaches involves the design and creation of new biological components and genetic circuits in microorganisms while redesigning existing natural biological systems. the research

This collaboration harnesses the innovation of Prof. Asaph Aharoni, a leading scientist in the fields of plant sciences and metabolomics with the ambition of extending boundaries and empowering BEE-IO’s nectar production cutting edge technology. Together we will advance nectar knowledge, discovering new means of leveraging the immense possibilities of this exciting unique natural product for the benefit of humanity.
Professor Asaph Aharoni’s bio

Asaph Aharoni is a full professor and heads the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. He earned his MSc at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received his PhD degree from Wageningen University, The Netherlands. Asaph performed his postdoctoral studies at the Plant Research International institute in Wageningen. He was from the first to apply DNA microarrays for large-scale gene expression analysis as well as pioneering the field of Metabolomics for comprehensive profiling and non-targeted metabolite analysis. His research interests center on uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying the production of plant secondary metabolites and the role of these molecules in plant interactions with other organisms. His lab combines cutting-edge metabolomics with molecular genetics, biochemistry and computational biology to study secondary metabolism in plant development and stress. His insights and vast knowledge in plant sciences and metabolomics may be translated into methods for regulating nectar production of plants. Prof. Aharoni received numerous awards and honors including: The American Society of Plant Biology ‘Enid MacRobbie Award’ for distinguished plant biologists outside the United States (2020), the European Research Council (ERC) grant for both ‘starting’ (2007) and ‘advanced’ (2019) independent investigators and the Andre Deloro prize awarded by the Weizmann institute, the James Heineman Research Award for Biological and Biomedical Research, the Weizmann Institute Scientific Council Prize (Levinson Prize in Biology) and the Yigal Alon Fellowship award by the Council for Higher Education in Israel. Asaph recently received.
